Background

TiC Heating Solutions Ltd. is a commercial heating company providing installation, servicing, repairs, and ongoing maintenance across England, Scotland, and Wales.

They work with both public and private sector clients, including schools, offices, care homes, healthcare facilities, hotels, churches and industrial sites. Their work covers everything from commercial boiler systems and plumbing to renewable heating solutions and wider plant room maintenance.

As the business continued to grow, the demands behind the scenes grew with it. Delivering high-quality work for clients remained the priority, but areas such as website management, documentation, internal procedures, compliance records and day-to-day business organisation needed more structure and consistency.

Like many growing businesses, there was a point where stronger systems were needed to support the next stage of development.

Objectives

The main objective was to improve the operational side of the business and create stronger structure across both internal processes and external presentation.

This included improving the company website so it better reflected the professionalism of the business, developing clearer policies and procedures, strengthening documentation, supporting risk assessments and improving the way certain day-to-day responsibilities were managed.

The intention was not simply to create more paperwork, but to make the business easier to run, reduce unnecessary pressure and ensure important areas were properly organised.

There was also a need for dependable ongoing support, allowing the business to stay focused on client delivery without internal systems being neglected.

My Contributions

My role covered several areas of the business and developed into ongoing operational support rather than a single project.

I designed, built, and continue to manage the company website; ensuring it presents the business professionally and reflects the quality of work delivered on-site. This included service pages, written content, policy pages, case studies, SEO improvements, ongoing updates and general website management.

I also reviewed and developed internal policies, processes and procedures across the business. This included health and safety documentation, fire safety procedures, safeguarding, privacy and data protection policies, operational processes, contractor documentation; as well as wider compliance records.

Risk assessments were supported through practical review of working practices, improved documentation and stronger record keeping to ensure responsibilities were effectively managed.

Alongside this, I continue to provide general business support across operations; including process improvement, workflow organisation, reporting support, problem solving and day-to-day guidance where needed.

The focus has always been practical improvement; making things work better without adding unnecessary complexity.

Results

The business now operates with stronger internal organisation, clearer documentation and a more professional digital presence.

The website provides a far better reflection of the quality of the business and supports stronger credibility with both existing and prospective clients.

Policies and procedures are more consistent, important records are easier to manage, operational responsibilities are supported by clearer systems, better documentation and improved oversight.

This has helped reduce administrative pressure and made day-to-day management more efficient, while also creating stronger foundations for future growth.

Rather than isolated improvements, the work has helped create a more organised and reliable way of running the business overall.

Reflection

This project reflects a common challenge for many SMEs.

Businesses are often very strong at delivering their core service; but the internal systems that support that work i.e. documentation, organisation, compliance and process management; can easily fall behind simply because there is not enough time.

Working with TiC Heating Solutions Ltd. reinforced how valuable practical business support can be when it focuses on the areas that genuinely affect how a business runs every day.

In this case, the biggest improvements did not come from major structural change; but from clearer systems, stronger documentation, and better consistency across the business.

It also showed the value of long-term support; ongoing involvement creates a much better understanding of how a business actually operates, which leads to better decisions and far more useful results over time.
